Summer Season

Head shot of Father Jeff Wylie

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

With the Vestry discerning that God sees Christ’s Church, Greensburg as a place where “Hungry People are Fed,” this summer has become one of excitement and wonder in preparing for the program term to start back in September.  Over the Summer, several behind the scenes or to go with the food theme, kitchen prep work, will be done.  Every ministry needs to be reevaluated to ensure that it is feeding a hunger of some type.

In feeding our children through Christian Education we hope to re-evaluating what we have. I have hope that we can create a Sunday School Program that will include sixth through twelfth grades.

In addition to our in-house programing, we will be looking at new, outreach ministries as well to feed our community.  After prayer and discernment to see how God is calling us to feed the needy we have plans to focus on two major topics.  The first is in dealing with the Opioid problem in Greensburg and the other is how can we feed the college students in Greensburg area.  Potential programs are being developed now.  Look for information at the end of summer.

In addition to our local area, we will have the opportunity for our feeding to reach averseas when Bishop Lamido will present for us on Sunday, June 18, the issues and struggles he deals with in Nigeria.  This will give us an opportunity to create a relationship with missions outside our country and help us address the needs of the global church of which Christ calls us to be a part.

On June 23, Olga Redkina will come to feed our souls by preforming for us a wonderful Cello concert. This is also an opportunity for us to feed our community by making them awareness of the Christian Leadership Academy, which is hoping to build a new private Christian school in Latrobe area. Our own Derek Harrington is one of the visionaries for this school.  We will also be able to feed the community because there will be a $5 donation for this event which ALL the donations will go to the Welcome Home Shelter for the homeless

August will come quickly so make sure you “save the date” – August 27 for us to feed ourselves at our annual parish picnic which will be held at Hempfield Park off Route 66. There will only be an 8:00 service at the church that day.

Feeding our spirits through education is continuing through the summer at Summer Sunday School for children three years old through 5th grade at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings.  The Men Study Group is also continuing throughout the summer.  If you find you may have some extra time, please give this groups a try.

I ask all of you to please pray that we properly discern God’s will in how we are to feed hungry people physically, emotionally and spiritually.  I know God has great plans for us and is leading us as we

continue the work of up, in and out or worship, discipleship and mission.  I am excited to follow where He is leading us.  I ask that if you feel called to be a part of any ministry of feeding hungry people, please call me!

It is a privilege in serving you as we do God’s work in worship, discipleship and mission.  It is an awesome thing to share Christ’s love, especially to those who are so hungry for His love.

I pray you have a blessed summer and I look forward in seeing throughout the summer, especially on Sundays.  May God bless you all and have a safe, healthy and Spirit filled Summer.

In Christ’s Love,

Fr. Jeff
